Frequently asked questions
- What is Cowboy Colostrum?
Colostrum is the nutrient-rich first milk produced after birth—loaded with immune-boosting compounds, natural growth factors, and healing nutrients. It’s your all-in-one powerhouse for stronger immunity, better gut health, glowing skin, healthy hair, and improved performance.
- What ingredients are in Cowboy?
You guessed it - bovine colostrum is our main ingredient, and the only ingredient in our unflavored colostrum. Our vanilla blend contains no junk, just organic monk(fruit) extract, organic natural vanilla flavor, sea salt, and bovine colostrum.
- Is Cowboy lactose free?
Different from mature milk, colostrum has a higher protein and fat content, and much less lactose. Although a tiny amount, Cowboy colostrum does contain lactose. So for those with a severe milk allergy, this is not for you.
- What countries do you ship to?
At the moment we ship to the US and Canada, and Australia.
- How does Cowboy source its colostrum?
We make it a priority at Cowboy to source our colostrum from dairy farmers who treat their cows with love and respect. The cows are grazing on pasture as long as weather permits and in the cold seasons they are provided shelter and fed products derived from grass like hay. We collect first milking colostrum from grass-fed U.S. dairy cows after the calf is born and it gets theirs. Our cows are never treated with rBST r(BGH), antibiotics, or hormones.
- How do you prioritize calf welfare?
We follow a calves fed first protocol. We always make sure the calves get their share before we collect and up cycle the remaining colostrum. A cow typically makes 1-2x more colostrum than their calf will drink.
- Is your colostrum pasteurized?
Legally, and to make it safe for our customers, we have to pasteurize our colostrum. All pasteurization methods use heat to some degree, what varies is the degree to which it is heated. There are 2 main methods used in the pasteurization of colostrum powder. Spray dried (also known as high-temperature), where it is heated for 15 seconds at 161 degrees OR low-temperature (also known as freeze-dried) where it is heated for 30 minutes at 145 degrees. We have thoroughly tested our colostrum through both methods and found that we were able to maintain a higher quality, more bioactive potent colostrum using the spray dry method.
- What is the First-Day Milking method?
After the calves get their share, Cowboy collects colostrum, always within the first 24 hours after the calf is born. Different from other colostrum powders on the market which include first, second, and third milking in their colostrum, Cowboy exclusively collects first-day milking colostrum, which has a much higher concentration of naturally occurring bioactives and nutrients. Starting after the calf is born, the bioactive potency in the colostrum begins to decline, meaning day 1 has the highest naturally occurring bioctives possible.
- Is your colostrum whole?
Yes! Our colostrum is whole, unstripped, and full-fat. Similar to whole milk vs. skimmed milk, we leave ours whole. We believe Mother Nature made a perfect food, so we try not to get in her way. We leave it in its most natural state, leaving in all the good fats, protein, ash, and casein.
